Play the Long Game

In the third grade my son's teacher told the class:

"When you are done with the standardized test, you can quietly do whatever you like."

He has randomly colored in the dots as quickly as possible ever since.

He learned early that following the rules doesn't always make sense.

We all have to decide if we will play the long game, or the short game, in life.

In the short game, there are 108 people, chosen at random, who will control your life.

They will determine how successful you are, how much money you make:

  • K-5: 6 teachers x 1 year

  • 6-8: 6 teachers x 3 years

  • 9-12: 8 teachers x 4 years

  • College: 8 teachers x 4 years

  • Work: New manager every 2 years x 40 years

6 + 18 + 32 + 32 + 20 = 108

108 random people will grade you, judge you, and conduct your performance reviews.

In this system, we have to remember that random chance has placed one person, at one point in time, in a position to evaluate us.

Their worthiness or competence to do so notwithstanding.

For that moment in time, they hold the cards.

That is the short game.

Play the long game.

Where the only person who sits in judgment of your life and your worthiness to succeed

is you.

When you’re ready, there are two ways I can help:

1) I highly recommend the same course ($150) I used to get started posting on LinkedIn (affiliate link): THE LINKEDIN OPERATING SYSTEM

2) 1:1 consulting sessions: GHEIM@GRAYSONHAYDEN.COM
