2 Out of 3 Ain't Bad

When I moved back to the US from Singapore my friend Bernard, CEO of the events company we worked with in Asia Pac, threw me a goodbye party.

We had worked together on huge corporate events that had been held all over Asia: Bali, Bangkok, Hong Kong.

When my Mom came to visit me, and I took her on a trip to Bali

Bernard had arranged for the marquee sign at the entrance to the hotel to say

“Welcome Genelle King and Mom”

My Mom thought I was royalty.

At the goodbye party

Bernard toasted me with the following:

“Sometimes loved. Sometimes hated. Always respected.”

My boyfriend turned to me and said

“I think that’s the best toast I’ve ever heard.”

I believe most men would have felt the same way.

We cannot always be liked.

Especially when we are driving for excellence.

I try to remind myself that in life - as with Bernard’s toast - 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

Do your best.

Take the love and joy that is offered.

And let the rest go.
